Javanese, especially Jogja people, are very superstitious. First of all, Javanese have superstitious about Nyi Roro Kidul. For example, they won’t wear green clothes when they go to the beach, especially South Beach. They think they will be safe from Nyi Roro Kidul who likes green clothes. Actually, in my opinion, it doesn’t have logical reason. That’s why, I disagree with it. I’m not a superstitious person. Also, I have ever proven it and nothing happen to me although I wear green clothes.
In addition, Javanese are also very superstitious about cultural ceremonies. Before fasting month, Javanese usually bring a lot food to the graveyard. After doing ritual they ate together there. This activity called “Nyadran”. Another example is “Labuhan”. It is a little bit as same as “Nyadran” but they do the ritual on the beach. They also brought a lot of food. They hope they will get blessing. I think it is not logical and instead made that place dirty. On my mind, there is no Nyi Roro Kidul or the others. It is just a legend. If you want to be a successful person, you have to do something that is concrete besides praying to the God because God won’t change your life if you aren’t doing an effort.
